Clearing out our pantries can be a powerful tool when switching to the AIP.
Sure, it’s a little daunting at first. It means taking ownership over our health by removing all the unhealthy foods from our fridge and cabinets and so we know everything in our house is compliant. It might mean figuring out how to donate or use up foods that aren’t compliant first. It means figuring out which foods to keep around for our families that won’t tempt us into derailing our efforts and which foods need to be banned from our homes (at least for now).
But I love this step because for those of us who need a little nudge, it can be just the impetus we need to move toward healthy habits (for more, see Transitions: All In or Baby Steps, AIP Mindset: Getting Beyond Feeling Deprived, and AIP Mindset: Cooking is Not a Burden,).
Plus, restocking that now-empty pantry with compliant foods has never been easier!
At this year’s Paleo f(x) 2017, I was reminded just how big the AIP is growing, even within the Paleo community. More and more vendors are reaching out with new compliant products, and the world is truly opening up! It’s always going to be important to be able to read our own labels, but there are a few trusted vendors I turn to for stocking my pantry because I know they truly understand the needs of the AIP community. One Stop Paleo Shop has been my go-to online shop for AIP products for years, and they’re always expanding their AIP offerings! Their AIP section is a safe space where we can find pre-packaged snacks and treats, cooking ingredients and other specialty items that are elimination friendly!
Now, if you’ve been following me for some time, you might know that I’m a big fan of online shopping. It’s simply the easiest way for me to get specialty products I often need for recipe creation, but it’s also just darn convenient when I’m hustling between school pickup, extracurriculars, and writing. It makes my days simpler, helps me stick to my meal plan and allows me to avoid the hassle of grocery store lines. I love One Stop Paleo Shop because unlike my local grocery store, every item on their shelves is 100% Paleo! That means all items are free of gluten and grains, soy, dairy, refined sugars and legumes. And, with their AIP-approved selections, they’ve taken it a step further!
Curious about a few of my AIP favorites?
My AIP Favorites
These crunchy, satisfying chips are the closest I’ve found to potato chips in terms of texture and flavor since going AIP. They’re a great way to add in a few AIP-friendly carbohydrates without the trouble of cooking up my other cassava-based staple, Cassava Oven Fries. I love eating them with my usual lunch of sardines, carrots, celery and some leafy greens. You can also check out Artisan Tropic’s line of sweet and salty plantain chips for a crunchy and compliant chip!
I’m always working my way through a pot of tea, and when nighttime rolls around Klio is my go-to for soothing herbal blends. I especially love that they’re sourced from amazing, organic sources in Greece, meaning I get all the nutrients I possibly can without actually picking the herbs from my backyard (LOL!). These are full leaf teas, meaning you’ll may want to use tea diffuser (I make them in a stovetop kettle and just drink around the occasional leaf that makes it into my mug), but it is SO worth the little bit of extra effort in terms of quality!
I have an EPIC bar almost every morning because they’re super portable, convenient and a good hit of protein before my training sessions! My favorite are the Beef, Apple, Bacon bars, but the Uncured Bacon and Bison, Bacon, Cranberry varieties are totally AIP compliant as well! You can find them in One Stop’s AIP Store, or in my AIP Protein Snack Box!
This stuff is the real deal! In both regular and Primal Cherry flavors, it’s perfect for all your nightshade-free summer grilling needs. I really like having this sauce on hand when we want to top something from the smoker, but it’s also great to bring along to summer barbecues with my family. Sometimes having a sauce that tastes “normal” on hand can help us feel much less deprived during summer events (which should be relaxing!).
My friend Mickey introduced me to these fantastic little treats more than a year ago, and I’ve been keeping them on hand at all times since! They’re a simple combination of raw honey, coconut cream, coconut palm sugar, coconut oil, MCT oil and salt, but they somehow taste like the dairy-laden caramels I grew up loving. Since chocolate is out on the AIP, I find these are the perfect size to fulfill a sweet craving without derailing my progress and sending me into sugar land. I love both the Original and lovely Lavender flavors!
I love Paleo Powder’s AIP blend, which contains simply Himalayan pink salt, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil and sage, as a standalone spice blend or a base for flavoring meat and veggies. Unlike a lot of spice blends, it’s completely free of both nightshades and fillers which can trigger autoimmune symptoms. I find that properly seasoning my meat and veggies is the key to making sure I eat enough of both, and with Paleo Powder on hand it’s pretty darn easy!
Over the years, I’ve worked with One Stop to curate collections of my favorite products. This year, I’ve updated my AIP On-The-Go and AIP Essentials boxes to include some of my new favorites! And, I’ve added a brand NEW AIP Protein Snack Box to the mix!
The AIP On-The-Go Box is an introduction to five of the AIP snacks I can’t live without. Inside you’ll find Pure Wraps, Jackson’s Honest Sweet Potato Chips, Sweet Apricity Caramels, a Beef, Apple and Uncured Bacon EPIC Bar and Wild Zora Lamb & Veggie Bars. These are the snacks I keep on hand to feed my kids, sustain myself on the road, and make quick lunches a breeze!
The AIP Essentials Box contains some of my most-loved AIP cooking ingredients. Otto’s Cassava Flour, The Date Lady Date Sugar, EPIC Pork Lard, The Beet Lady Beet Ketchup and Primal Palate Spices’ Breakfast Blend are meant to spark your creativity! These products have helped me stay excited about AIP cooking and recipe creation, and I know your family will love them too!
The AIP Protein Snack Box makes finding makes grabbing compliant protein on the go easy! I’ve included the Date & Rosemary Pasture Raised Chicken Jerky from The New Primal, my old favorite Beef Apple Bacon Bar by EPIC, a veggie and protein-packed Lamb Rosemary Spinach Bar by Wild Zora and another new and tasty treat – Coconut Jerky by Cocoburg! With all these different flavors and ingredients you are bound to love this snack box!
