For years, I’ve talked about the negative effects that consuming grains can have on the body at the cellular level (see Why Grains Are Bad–Part 1, Lectins and the Gut and Why Grains Are Bad–Part 2, Omega 3 vs. 6 Fats). Combined with the fact that grain-based foods are inherently very sparse on vital nutrients (see Why Grains Are Bad: Part 3, Nutrient Density and Acidity), eliminating them from the Paleo diet is a no-brainer!
Because of the specific negative effects that grains (particularly wheat and gluten) have on our health, my family and I have chosen a grain-free lifestyle. Committing to a lifelong elimination of grains is also one of the most important recommendations that I make for anyone looking to start feeling better on the Paleo diet!
I’m passionate about improving scientific literacy around health topics, like helping people to understand why vegetables are always a better choice than grains. And tackling the broader issue of public health from an educational perspective means that I get very excited when new resources are developed toward this purpose! This is why I was so excited to contribute to a brand-new feature-length documentary called What’s With Wheat.
What’s With Wheat is a groundbreaking and extremely well-done NEW documentary that takes an in-depth look at how wheat has changed in the last century, how our diets as a whole have shifted towards including more grains, and how these changes are contributing to chronic illness.
I am absolutely honored to be one of the 15 experts featured in What‘s With Wheat, speaking alongside luminaries such as Dr. Terry Wahls, Dr. David Perlmutter, Joel Salatin, Sally Fallon and Mark Sisson.
What‘s With Wheat fills a void in the current collection of diet and health documentaries, giving us in the Paleo community a fantastic, informative and highly-motivating resource to share with those friends and family members who are curious about why we choose to follow a grain-free lifestyle! I know I’ll be sharing it with everyone I know (not just because I’m in it, lol!)!

What’s With Wheat is a hard hitting investigation into the growing epidemic of wheat and gluten intolerance, and why after eating wheat for thousands of years, it has been linked to so many modern health problems. Hosted by Cyndi O’Meara, founder of Changing Habits, this documentary investigates:
- what has changed in our wheat that is now causing a huge increase in celiac and non-celiac gluten sensitivity,
- how modern agriculture has affected our wheat crops,
- why we as a society are getting sicker and sicker, including a rise in autoimmune diseases,
- what we can do to make change to not only improve our own health but the health of our children and future generations.
What’s With Wheat is available for FREE online screenings from June 24th to June 30th! This is the perfect opportunity to further educate yourself, your friends, and your family about the health effects of wheat and other grains, but it won’t be free forever!
