Woot! I’m crazy super excited to finally be able to announce Dr. Sarah Ballantyne’s Collagen Veggie Blend from Vital Proteins!
I’ve been a huge fan of Vital Proteins for years now. I mix their Collagen Peptides into my tea every morning, have used their gelatin to make countless recipes, take their encapsulated liver pills daily, and truly trust the people and process behind this incredible collection of products. I know many people (myself included!) whose health has been positively impacted by Vital Proteins products, because they’re just so fantastically healing! I had a tall order for Vital Proteins. I wanted a simple product that packed in a ton of whole veggies (fiber and all), just enough fruit to balance the bitterness of the veggies and add some vital nutrients, and a full 20 grams of protein from collagen peptides all in a palatable portable powder that could be mixed easily with water, didn’t need a blender, that wasn’t gritty or thick to drink, and that completely complied with the Autoimmune Protocol. We went through a number of iterations, but the product development team at Vital Proteins are geniuses; and they were able to create an amazing blend of grass-fed collagen peptides and 11 USDA organic veggies and fruits that ticked everyone of those boxes!
Collagen Veggie Blend is super nutrient packed, and makes getting your daily dose of collagen, 3 (YES THREE!) servings of vegetables and 1 serving of high antioxidant content fruit incredibly easy. But, I know that eating tons of veggies isn’t easy for a lot of people. Plus many of my fellow AIPers can only really digest veggies that are well blended (as in soups and smoothies). So, I wanted to make this easy for you (okay, selfishly, I wanted to make this easy for me. My dirty secret: I partnered with Vital Proteins on this project because it’s something I want to drink every day!!!!). And, it’s the only recommendation I’ll be making when I’m asked about an AIP protein powder!
How does it taste? It’s not sweet. If you like vegetable juices made with just veggies and no fruit, you’ll probably enjoy the taste of Collagen Veggie Blend (I do!). If you’re a person who prefers juices or smoothies on the sweeter side, simply blend your Collagen Veggie Blend with some additional fruit or a little raw honey to make it to your liking. Vital Proteins and I very intentionally kept the sugar content super low (only 7 grams and all of it the naturally occurring sugars in fruits and veggies!) so that this drink could be more versatile.
