History of Dietary Recommendations and the Rise in Chronic Illness
In this video, I discuss the history of dietary recommendations and how they’ve contributed to the rise in chronic illness. Unfortunately, many of the things that you’ve been taught about nutrition over the past few decades is wrong! The good news is that all of the diet and lifestyle information presented in this lecture series is evidence-based.

Action Step
So much of the “conventional” diet wisdom is not only unhelpful when it comes to healing from autoimmune disease, but some traditional healthy eating recommendations (like going low-fat, eating whole grains, or avoiding dietary cholesterol) can actually contribute to autoimmune and other chronic diseases.
The most important action step you can take today is to proceed through the rest of this course with an open mind and ready to let knew information displace old, outdated, incorrect diet recommendations.

Self-Discovery Exercise
Reflect on how you eat now. Do you think it’s healthy? Are there any foods that you eat because you’ve been told they’re good for you but that you’re now questioning whether or not that’s true (e.g., quinoa, edemame, Greek yogurt)? How do you think your diet could be easily improved (e.g., eating more whole foods, cooking more at home)?
Read through the list of autoimmune diseases in the printables above or on pages 17 to 19 in The Paleo Approach. Have you been diagnosed with any of these conditions? Do one or a few of these conditions run in your family?
Also read through the symptoms list in the printables above. Do you suffer from any of those symptoms without a condition to attribute them to?
