Hi, everyone! I’m Katie, and I could not be more excited to be joining The Paleo Mom Team as a research assistant and content creator.
I’ve been a long-term follower of The Paleo Mom simply because of our mutual passion for science in the Paleo community. I began doing research in human physiology starting in high school at the University of Chicago. Continuing my studies as well as my research training, I graduated summa cum laude from Albion College in 2013 with Bachelors of Art degrees in Biology and Psychological Science. I wrote two undergraduate theses; for Biology, I studied inflammatory cytokines, and for Psychology, I examined treatment methods for anorexia nervosa. During college, I received the National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship, and I have been working at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development for the past two years, studying the effectiveness of psychological interventions on long-term psychopathology, eating behavior, and metabolic factors (e.g., weight & insulin resistance) in teenage girls with a leading worldwide expert in pediatric obesity as my Principal Investigator. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and am thrilled to be continuing my research and academic career in medical school.
I discovered Paleo in early 2012 in my own pursuit of better health; while my struggles with acne and weight loss are still a work in progress, I have seen incredible improvements in my health as a result of the nutrient dense, real food approach that Paleo embodies. Given my hefty academic obligations to date, I haven’t been able to create much original content, but you can find my publications on PubMed here. For general inquiries, click here.
