TPM Tidbit: Quick Applesauce
July 9, 2012 in Baby Food Recipes, TPM Tidbits
We love to eat applesauce with our pork. It’s also useful in baking from time to time. I always have apples in my house so I always make my own applesauce. I do this by simply peeling, coring and slicing apple into small ½” pieces. After cutting them up, I place 2-3 apples worth of pieces into a pyrex measuring cup (either my 2-Cup size or my 4-Cup size
depending on how much I’m making) and microwave on high for about 4 minutes. The apples are then soft enough to pulse with my Immersion Blender
. My favorite apples for making applesauce are galas because they are sweet and soften very well when cooked (golden delicious and fuji are close seconds). I don’t typically add anything to our applesauce since we all like it plain, but you could add sprinkle of Ground Cinnamon
if you like. I can get about 1 cup of applesauce per 2 cups raw apple, which is about 2 apples.

Sarah,
I found your blog 2 days ago and have been avidly reading it–lots of great info! (I’ve done paleo for about 6 weeks and am gradually starting to work on the family).
You obviously don’t have any qualms about the microwave, but I do. Apple sauce is very quick and easy just on the stove–especially if you’ve cut the apples into 1/2″ pieces! We warm everything on the stove and it works great.
Thanks Ann! I realize that many people feel uncomfortable using a microwave due to a variety of health concerns. Personally, I have absolutely no reservations about microwave cooking whatsoever (well, except maybe that I don’t use plastic containers or plastic wrap in the microwave). This would be a great topic for a blog post so thanks for bringing my attention to it!
Oh please oh please do a microwave post!! I have been trying to research about it lately!
I agree, would love to see a microwave post cause all the Weston Price stuff really leaves me confused.
